What can Obama change?

It was a surprising sight to see the "office of the President-elect" sign on a podium at the press conference. It's not often that the President-elect gives press conferences. But this President-elect does.

Obama is facing a greater challenge than the campaign now. It's called political reality, and I truly hope and believe in my heart that he can change and that he will change and that he must change the way America operates. He can't change the tide of time, America IS an empire in decline, but Obama kan make one of the few last changes of the course before the ship will crash into the cliffs.

And it will make a difference. In the popular sci-fi stories by Isaac Asimov, the "Foundation" series, the main character says that the difference of the events today will decide whether the Dark Ages of chaos and mayhem will be 500 years or 50.000 years.

Of course, we don't operate in such a scheme, but there will be a difference, a huge and vast difference in what President Obama does when he takes office. I believe that there is a greater change coming to the world, one where a new superpower, China, takes the stage. It won't be yet, but it isn't that far away.

Can Obama make America the voice of Reason and the guiding light of the world once more? Perhaps. I think it's utopia to believe he will turn the world into Star Trek bliss, but I do think he can make a substantial impact and I hope that he won't be bogged down by partisan politics and compelx issues, but maintain his ideals, and trust his operatives to implement his plan. He must keep his eye fixed on the horizon, and remain the Captain, my Captain.
